Tactical officers walk around the area of the 1900 block of Evening Song Court, where a man with a gun surrendered peacefully on Thursday after a brief standoff.
A man who had barricaded himself in a Schaumburg townhouse Thursday afternoon surrendered peacefully to police officers by 6:15 p.m. in a case that ended without injuries.
Whether charges will be filed against the individual remained unknown, however, Schaumburg police Lt. Kris Provenzano said.
Officers were alerted to the situation on the 1900 block of Evening Song Court by a nearby resident who'd heard what sounded like a gunshot at about 2:30 p.m.
Police soon after confirmed that they were dealing with a barricaded subject but didn't know whether he was alone or had hostages.
That information remained unknown Thursday night as the case continued to be investigated.
The incident caused the precautionary cordoning off of a three-block radius around the townhouse, which lies just south of Golf Road between Walnut Lane and Knollwood Drive. In fact, Golf Road itself was shut down between those two streets while the incident was in progress, causing major traffic backups.
The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System's Emergency Services Team provided assistance to the Schaumburg police department until the situation was resolved.
Bail was set at $3 million this morning for a man who barricaded himself in a friend's home for 15 hours near a major intersection in Hanover Park over the weekend when police tried to arrest him on a warrant for attempted murder.
The standoff began about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Bamberg Court when police tried to arrest Edward Zielinski on a warrant for attempted murder from the Emmett Township Police Department in Michigan, according to Hanover Park Police Lt. Mike Menough
Zielinski surrendered at 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
When police made contact with Zielinski, he told them he was armed with a handgun and threatened to harm officers and himself, then barricaded himself in the residence on Bamburg, police said.
Zielinski told police, "If you come in here, this will be the worst day of your life," according to DuPage County Assistant State's Atty. Jeffrey Muntz, who said police had located Zielinski by his cell phone signal.
The man held no hostages and had injured no one else, Mayor Rod Craig said Saturday night after being contacted at home by the Tribune.
During the standoff, police were unavailable for comment about the situation even as users on Web sites such as Twitter, message boards and e-mails to local newspapers repeated several rumors about people in Hanover Park being killed or injured.
Zielinski's criminal background includes a sex crime conviction in Michigan.
